Just in case you don’t know the backstory, Young@Heart is a New England group composed entirely of octogenarian singers. The group’s performance of Coldplay’s “Fix You” is being led by chorus member Fred Knittle, who suffers from congestive heart failure and breathes through an oxygen tank (which are the quiet little “hic” sounds you can hear in the background). The performance was originally planned to be a duet between Fred and another member, Bob Salvini, but Salvini succumbed to illness shortly before the show. Fred decided to go ahead and sing the song alone as a tribute to his friend and, as you can see, the resulting performance was incredibly moving.
